Self-Esteem of FGL: Exploring the Influential Determinants

Self esteem is a personal judgment of worthiness. In this judgment if the individual evaluates his worth positively, he is supposed to have high self esteem and vice-versa. Adolescent having low self esteem is vulnerable to criticism and rejection. An adolescent with a high self-esteem is better psychologically adjusted, and conform to social standards. As we know the home is the primary agent of socialization for the children. It shapes the personality of the children. Nursing the relationship, provide an emotional refuge for children, fostering the development of a healthy sense of belongingness, self esteem and well being. In the life of the child school is second home. A good school environment always shapes the young ones to face the future world. School is a place where students get together, share instructions and social infrastructures, which is fundamental to shaping their interests attitudes and habits. A first generation learner home environment has lot to tell whereas even the school has ¿push-out¿ environment rather ¿push-in¿. Therefore, it is necessary that parents and teachers have right kind of attitude towards these children to develop strong positive self esteem.
