Mfabeni Peatland situated along the Maputaland Coastal Plain of northern KwaZulu-Natal is Africäs largest active peatland. Due to the lack of detailed palaeoenvironmental reconstructions undertaken in this region, the Maputaland peat deposits, particularly Mfabeni Peatland, represent an important prospect for palaeoenvironmental research. The aim of this study was to reconstruct the depositional history of Mfabeni Peatland, using sedimentary characterisation techniques.
