Securing Chinese assets along the New Silk Roads

If we are to look for the earliest traces of globalization in human history, the Silk Road is probably one of the most relevant examples. For thousands of years, this set of land and sea routes has seen the circulation of both people and ideas, goods and knowledge. Seven centuries later, in September 2013, the first secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, XI Jinping, gave a speech at the University of Astana, in Kazakhstan. While the economic capacity of China, which wishes to invest more than 1,000 billion dollars over 10 years, suggests that this project will go well, the question of securing Chinese assets along these new silk roads represents a crucial point in the development of Chinese interests abroad. The outsourcing of warfare represents one of the only solutions for the Chinese Communist Party to guarantee the security of its numerous assets.
