Secondary metabolates of Chrysanthemum Cronarium L.from Cyprus

The Chrysanthemum coronarium L. (garland) is any early herb which finds an edible use due to its high nutritional value and fragrant nature. Chrysanthemum coronarium species is very abundant and spread in the Mediterranean coastal regions and its islands, this species also finds habitat in the other parts of the world counting Southeast Asia. So far, numerous ingredients have been isolated from C. coronarium, counting the substance classes termly, polyacetylenes, (Bohlmann and Fritz, 1979), sesquiterpenes, (Lee et al., 2004a; 2004b,), heterocyclics, phenolics (Song et al., 2003b.) and steroids (Song et al., 2003a.). In the scope of this study, chloroform fraction of methanol extract of aerial parts of C. coronarium L. (garland), collected from Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, was investigated in terms of chemical composition using systematic isolation and purification revisions. During the isolation of the pure plant¿s phytochemicals, various chromatographic techniques as an example column chromatography (CC), thin layer chromatography (TLC) and preparative TLC techniques were used.
