School based early intervention for adolescents at risk

The annual cost in Australia and the United States associated with early school departure is estimated in billions of dollars in lost revenue, crime, and unemployment and substance misuse. In response, schools are being increasingly used as the main weapon to counter anti-social adolescent behaviour. This book explores the factors affecting the implementation within school settings of early intervention policy for those young people, aged 12- 14, at risk of educational disengagement. This book seeks to address the lack of research on how early intervention strategies are incorporated by generalist school staff into their day-to-day school routines and processes ¿ the practical aspects of implementation in school settings. The analysis should provide useful information for teachers, school administrators, policy and curriculum writers, teacher educators and academics.
