Reuniting over- and undernutrition, macronutrients and micronutrients

Last decade ago, many people died of infectious and did not lived long. In fact, many people were thin and the worry was more of malnutrition than of over-nutrition. Over the last 150 years, clean water, safe milk, sewerage, immunizations, antibiotics and other public health medical advances have enabled a much larger fraction of youth to live into early adulthood and then into years beyond 70. At present, a major focus in medicine is the epidemic of obesity with its multiple negative outcomes. Over recent years, ¿obesity paradox¿ has been presented, with studies that show better outcomes among obese patients. Throughout life, elevated weight helps the individual in fight against infections and speeds wound healing. Contemporary formulations focus on macronutrients and often neglect the role of micronutrients in controlling infections.
