Retaining Walls

This book is designed to educate the students of civil engineering, as well as to civil engineers who are working on structured design of foundation and retaining walls. It presents all the subject in a simple way with comprehensive explanations and drawings. A large number of examples have been included and presented in an easily understandable format with detailed drawings. The specifications and procedure were set in accordance with ACI code. The book consists of 10 chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the introduction about the retaining walls, the history and the need of retaining wall on the practice. Chapter2 studies the behavior of soil under loads as well as classification of soil. Chapter3 focused on earth pressure theories. Factors effecting magnitudes and directions are discussed in chapter 4. Chapter 5 includes common types of retaining walls. Chapter6 is about materials used in retaining wall. Stability of gravity retaining walls in chapter 7. Chapter 8 Gabion retaining walls are discussed. Analysis and design of reinforcing concrete cantilever retaining walls in chapter9 with all parts and details. Chapter10 presented the counterfort retaining wall.
