Retailing encompasses the business activities involved in selling goods and services to their Customers for their personal family or household use. Retail is one of the Indiäs largest industry, has presently emerged as most dynamic and fast paced industry with several players entering the market. It accounts for around 10 ¿ 11 per cent of the country¿s GDP and the retail industry is growing at a rate of 18 ¿ 20 per cent per annum around eight per cent of the employment in the country. Now¿ädays, in India a rise in the purchasing power, and growth of a middle class which follows the Western lifestyle. Hence conditions are conducive for the rapid growth of organized retail in India.
