Resilience, Social Support and Anxiety Among Drug Addicts

The study was conducted to explore the relationship between resilience, social support and anxiety among drug addicts. The Resilience Scale (Grotberg, 1995), Multidimensional Scale for Perceived Social Support (Zimet, 1988) and Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (Hamilton, 1959) were administered on the sample of the study consisted of (N = 120) drug addicts selected on the basis of stratified random sampling. Information about age, education, working status and marital status were also gathered. The reliability estimates of the scales showed high internal consistency of the measures used in the study. The results of the Pearson Product Moment Correlation indicated that there was positive correlation between resilience and social support. Anxiety was negatively correlated with resilience and social support. Results regarding drug type showed that heroine drug addicts had high level of resilience and social support and low level of anxiety as compared to nicotine drug addicts.
