Research is a voyage of discovery from the known to the unknown. Research can also be defined as a scientific and systematic search for pertinent information on a specific topic . Research consists of defining and redefining problems, formulating hypothesis or solutions; collecting, organizing, and evaluating data; making deductions and reaching conclusions; and at last carefully testing the conclusions to determine whether they fit the formulating hypothesis.Over the past few decades, the branch of Periodontology has witnessed a tremendous surge in various aspects of clinical research, epidemiological research and molecular research, and many mysteries related to the etiopathogenesis and treatment aspects of periodontal disease have since been discovered.Ideally, prevention of disease development, treatment of existing disease and the organization of care delivery should be based on high-level evidence obtained from high-quality research.
