Research Scholars' Mental Health and Social Liberalism

The study also points out that there is a major proportion of research scholars who are facing mental health challenges or are on a verge of facing these problems. Results indicate that parent(s)' death, perceived burden of PhD, urban dwelling and unsatisfactory academic performance are found to have a significant association with mental health disorders among research scholars. Findings also indicated that higher levels of liberalism are positively associated with moderate/severe levels of anxiety and depression. Results were consistent for bi-variate as well as multivariate analysis. Mental disorders were also analyzed for a possible relationship with substance use among research scholars. Results indicated that alcohol use was significantly associated with moderate/severe levels of depression whereas smokingand smokeless tobacco were found to be significantly related with moderate/high levels of stress among the research scholars
