In the two previous studies, compared with those who do not drink and smoke at all, individuals who either drank or smoked slightly increases the risk for suicide, but the combination of the two elevates the risk much more than either that the risk of either behavior on its own. Therefore, using a cross-sectional design, we randomly selected subjects among all Koreans. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between suicide risks, such as smoking, drinking, and suicidal thoughts, plans, and attempts, and to provide basic data for developing policies to prevent suicide.
