Recycled sand mortars

With a view to the recovery of recycled aggregates in cementitious materials, which constitutes an attractive ecological and economic alternative, the emphasis was placed on the recovery of recycled sand in the manufacture of mortars. In order to compensate for the high water absorption of recycled sand, a pre-wetting process was adopted, thus incorporating a high water-reducing superplasticizer. The aim of this work is twofold: The first is to find an optimal percentage of substitution of natural alluvial sand by recycled sand. The second objective is to compare mortars based on recycled sand with and without fillers. In order to show the interest of the elaborated composites, an experimental study is approached aiming at determining the rheological properties and the mechanical and durability characteristics.
