Goat contribute meat, milk,skin ,fibre as well as mannure and serve as the sole or subsidiary livilihood for a large number of small and marginal farmers and landless labourers in India.Annually,goats provide 17.32 thousand tonnes of meat .In addition 4880000 pieces of skin are obtained as by-products every year.Tamil Nadu is endowed with three recognised breeds of goat viz.,Kanni Adu,Kodi Adu,and Salem Black and all are belonging to meat type goats.The Kanni Adu goat is an important meat goat breed in the Southern Tamil Nadu,India.The native tract of this breed is the Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli Disticts of TamilNadu.Barring a few preliminary studies on kanni goat the regarding the information pertaining to distribution,population status and economic traits of this breed and no detailed study on the carcass charterstics and meat quality of kanni goat has been made so far .The book has been published for those who need information on Meat qualities of Kanni Goat chevon.
