Protective Effect of Parsley on the mouse brain and heart during aging

Aging is an inevitable, multifactorial phenomenon with a gradual decline in physiological processes, as the age progresses. Many theories have addressed the process of aging, of which, Free Radical Theory of aging is well accepted. Oxidative stress due to overproduction of free radicals in the cells is one of the causes for age associated degenerative changes in the post mitotic tissues like heart and brain. Many researchers are working on possible anti-aging effects of dietary antioxidant supplements to reduce age related increase in oxidative stress. A group of antioxidants, the flavonoides have potent role in the management of free radical induced damage in the cells. The diet rich in fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables containing flavonoides can reduce possible free radical damage in the cells during aging.
