Prospective bio-inoculants for Pongamia cultivation

Pongamia pinnata (Synonym Millettia pinnata) is a viable source of oil for the mushrooming biofuel industry, source for agro-forestry, urban landscaping, and the bio-amelioration of degraded lands. It also helps in maintaining soil fertility through symbiotic nitrogen-fixation. In promoting the benefits of Pongamia pinnata in agriculture, development of Rhizobial and Arbuscular mycorrhizal inoculants is an added advantage as Pongamia was known for its symbiotic association with microbes. In this book, we described how the rhizobia have been isolated, characterized for their abiotic stress tolerance and plant growth promoting traits. This also deals with consortia formulation of bio-inoculants for sustainable cultivation of Pongamia pinnata.
