Progress in the pulsincap technology for better performance

Pulsincap systems are the capsular (capsule form) single unit systems developed and patented by USA based R.P. Scherer International Corp., Michigan. In brief, pulsincap system is a drug delivery system that includes a water insoluble gelatin capsule body shell enclosing drug formulation. The open end of body is closed with a swellable plug called as hydrogel plug that defines the lag time and releases the drug as a pulse (all at once) after the dissolution of soluble cap followed by erosion or expulsion of hydrogel plug upon contact with gastric fluid. The thickness of the plug and place of insertion of the plug controls the lag time.There are several advancements in the development of technology for the better application of pulsatile drug delivery systems and controlled release systems using the concept of pulsincap.
