Probiotic Supplementation Effects in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Pregnancy is a complex metabolic condition that includes significant changes in the humoral environment, as well as changes in adipokines and inflammatory cytokines. Gestational diabetes mellitus is a metabolic and endocrine disorder that occurs when pancreatic function in a pregnant mother is not sufficient to overcome diabetic pregnancy conditions. Considering the strong relationship between diabetes and obesity in mothers with the risk of obesity and glucose intolerance during childhood, the metabolic environment of the uterus is now a vital risk factor for diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Recently, the use of probiotics has been considered to improve the metabolic profile , the reduction of inflammatory factors and the stroke oxidative biomarkers. Although studies have been conducted on the use of probiotics in pregnancy, research on the effects of probiotics on mother's metabolism is in its early stages, and studies on the effects of using probiotics in the treatment of gestational diabetes are very rare.
