Pre-hospital care in ophidian accidents

In this small volume, which is intended to be a training tool and a practical guide for action, the author deals with the initial care (out-of-hospital) of ophidian accidents (venomous snakebite) in its various scenarios: first aid in the field by the community; pre-hospital care and basic care transport by a relief agency and also the subject of referrals or transfers of patients between health institutions and medicalized care transport, mentioning in each case what should be done, what should be avoided, what critical situations could arise and how to act to deal with them. All this is preceded by two interesting chapters, one on the general characteristics of snakes and the other on snake venoms: what they are, how they act and their effects. The final part also contains a series of practical recommendations for the prevention of accidents caused by venomous animals.
