This laboratory manual has evolved over the years to meet the needs of the undergraduate M.B.B.S. students with the aim to provide comprehensive techniques of practical medical microbiology. Besides basic techniques, the book also encompasses the clinical aspects of the subject, for e.g. the causative pathogens of the various syndromes and their specimen collection protocols. The intention is to provide the students with an organized, user-friendly tool to better enable them to understand laboratory aspects of the subject and to give the students "hands-on" laboratory experience to better reinforce the practical learning. The book, written in a very lucid manner for the better and easy understanding of the subject, has been divided into units, covering different disciplines of medical microbiology and provides an up-to-date practical bench manual, taking a modern approach to the provisions of a quality medical laboratory services. The goal of this manual is to provide the bridge that helps students integrate their classroom lectures with laboratory experiences. This integrated approach is a way to assure understanding in the subject and its practical applications.
