Powerstation

What brings our hearts and minds to life? Love and longing, happiness and hurt, closeness and freedom. But also nature, animals, the world around us – and the questions that stay with us. In 50 poems and philosophical commentaries, Briska De L’Aven explores experiences, thoughts, feelings and observations from many different areas of life. Each poem is accompanied by a short reflection that opens another perspective on its theme and invites readers to pause, question and form their own thoughts. The journey begins within – with self-discovery, confidence, disappointment, hope and the courage to face life’s uncertainties. From there, it moves into the complex world of love and relationships: intimacy and independence, desire and restraint, jealousy and trust, commitment and freedom, letting go and finding one’s own way. But POWERSTATION reaches beyond love and relationships. Its gaze turns towards animals and nature, environmental concerns, ageing and loss, social issues, war and peace, and our responsibility for ourselves and the world in which we live. The poems and commentaries do not try to smooth out life’s contradictions. Tenderness stands beside provocation, romance beside irony, vulnerability beside strength, and quiet reflection beside uncomfortable questions. Colourful heart illustrations accompany the 50 themes, adding a playful visual dimension to the words. POWERSTATION does not offer ready-made answers. It invites readers to reflect, question and find their own way – with self-confidence, independence, openness and a willingness to look at life from different perspectives. A distinctive combination of poetry and philosophical reflection for readers who enjoy words that can touch, challenge, surprise and occasionally make them smile. Because life does not follow a straight line. And perhaps that is precisely what makes the journey worthwhile. Also available with coloured hearts with ISBN 978-3-930965-52-6
