Post Endodontic Restorations

Endodontically treated teeth often require a special approach, due to the specific biomechanical behavior of such teeth. Loss of hard dental tissues because of carious and non-carious lesions, access cavity preparation with consequent deepening of the whole cavity increases flexure possibilities of the vertical coronal walls and makes it prone to fracture.The completion of root canal treatment does not signal the end of patient management. The endodontically treated tooth needs to be restored back to form, function and aesthetics. The quality of the coronal restoration will directly impact on the survival and success of the endodontically treated tooth. The provision of a restoration with a good coronal seal has been suggested to reduce the risk of failure of a root canal treated tooth by reducing bacterial microleakage into the recently cleaned, shaped, and filled root canal system.
