Policy Integration and Stakeholder Participation in Swaziland

When a new project on sugar cane irrigation was proposed for a small rural community in Swaziland, the EIA report showed that all stakeholders were consulted following guidelines of the governing environmental legislation. This book investigates the extent of stakeholder involvement in particular during project or programme implementation using the principles of sustainable development as a yardstick. It has been said that sustainable development is not a 'one size fits all' concept, but are there adjustments to local situations during implementation? How much stakeholder power can really influence/change the decision making process? What needs to be changed so that sustainable development is achievable at local levels?
