Places and Landscapes: An Ecocritical Study of Gao Xingjian's Fiction

The book provides a comprehensive study of Chinese 2000 Nobel Laureate in Literature, Gao Xingjian and his literary works. The representation of the physical landscape in Gaös writings is connected with a strong sense of environmental consciousness. The book would re-read Gao Xingjian¿s texts applying contemporary theories of ecocriticism and oriental philosophy on nature and ecology like Daoism. It explores Gao Xingjian¿s perspective and views on humans as part of nature. This book further attempts to offer viable alternatives to thinking and reconstituting ecocritical ideas and representations in Gao Xingjian and to evaluate them in terms of their coherence and usefulness as responses to environmental crisis.
