PHARMACOKINETIC STUDY AND RESIDUAL ANALYSIS OF CIPROFLOXACIN

The present study was done to evaluate the pharmacokinetic parameters of ciprofloxacin following single dose of oral and i.v route of administration and estimating the residual level and withdrawal period. The safety evaluation on liver and kidney following multiple doses of ciprofloxacin orally in dual purpose chicken was done. The study was conducted in thirty day old Indian Rock-3 birds (n=210), a dual purpose chicken strain of White Plymouth Rock developed by Veterinary College, Bengaluru. Liquid Chromatography-tandem Mass Spectrometry, which provides superior specificity and sensitivity was used for the analytical study. For the pharmacokinetic study, the birds were divided into two experimental groups (n=15), Group I and Group II birds were administered with single dose of ciprofloxacin at 8 mg /kg, PO and 5 mg/kg, IV respectively for the pharmacokinetic study. The parameters were determined by non-compartmental analysis using PK solver software. For residue analysis and withdrawal period of ciprofloxacin experimental birds divided into two groups.
