Periodontal Medicine

Periodontics is a rapidly changing branch of dentistry with new scientific revelations unveiling many mysteries. Periodontal medicine is a rapidly emerging branch of periodontology focussing on the research of new data establishing a strong relationship between periodontal health or disease and systemic health or disease. Periodontitis has been linked to over 50 systemic diseases and conditions. The influence of systemic health on periodontium has long been recognized; however periodontal health affecting the systemic health has recently been investigated and is supported by evidence. Having an evidenced based knowledge regarding the relationship between periodontal health and systemic heath will bridge the gap between the dental and medical professionals and will provide better education, patient care and gives new fascinating insights in the field of research and the evidences itself will motivate the patient to maintain a good oral hygiene. This book does not give the reader very detailed information about the subject.
