The rising food insecurity in developing countries caused by rapidly increasing population can be partly addressed through poultry keeping. Conventional sources of protein in commercial poultry production are fishmeal (FM) and oil seed cakes, which are usually scarce, expensive and used extensively by other livestock and humans. The main objective of this study was to determine the best way(s) of producing, harvesting, and processing maggots into maggot meal (MM), assess the performance of broiler chickens fed maggot meal as a protein substitute for fishmeal and evaluate cost of production.
