Pediatric anesthesia challenge in Eastern DR Congo

The anesthesia of children is an event that torments the family and the surgical team a lot because most of the cardiac arrests in children are attributed to the anesthesia, In DR Congo, infant mortality is estimated at 158 ¿. In the retrospective and descriptive study done at Heal Africa hospital a 2018, on the analysis of 544 medical records children represent 22.68% and the intraoperative mortality rate is 18%. For an easy management of children, we have just put within the reach of providers in this field a simple protocol oriented on practical actions such as the pre-anaesthetic visit oriented towards the state of the noble organs, practical and strict observance of safety measures, and a thoughtful choice of drugs.The combination of drugs such as atropine, Dexamethasone, Paracetamole, Halothane, suxamethonium, Cisatracurium, and a good adaptation of fluids have produced better results in anaesthesia of children in our resource-limited settings.
