Osteomyelitis of the jaws- A clinico-radiological perspective

Osteomyelitis is a serious pathology of the bones that can be seen in all age groups infant to elderly. It is second only to soft-tissue infection as the most important musculoskeletal infection especially in the elderly.The radiographic aspects of the disease may be challenging and may be the first evidence for transformation of benign odontogenic abscess to as grave as osteomyelitis. Hence, adequate knowledge of the radiographic aspects by oral physicians is of paramount importance for the early diagnosis and prompt treatment of such disabling disease. This textbook provides a guide to the clinical and radiographic features of all the types of osteomyelitis seen in the jaws and can be a useful reference to the undergraduate as well as the postgraduate students.
