ORTHODONTIC MATERIALS AND IT'S RECENT ADVANCES

It is the science that deals with the study of materials used in dentistry, which includes chemical properties, physical properties, manipulation and their applications in dental practice.Major subject areas were arch wires and stainless-steel brackets, elastics and elastomers, alginate impression material, zinc phosphate cement, and acid etching of enamel and adhesive bonding of brackets.The enormous changes in orthodontics treatment mechanics, treatment duration and appliance efficiency due to improvement in materials are perhaps the most prominent differences that distinguish contemporary orthodontic practice from the way Dr. Angle was practicing. However, materials are now available that allow the application of force of a known magnitude, direction, and duration, in a predictable manner and with minimum substrate alteration induced.These materials are used to plan and provide treatments for malocclusions, and often these materials are used in the fabrication of an orthodontic appliance.
