Organic Flocculation Auxiliary in Water Supply Treatment

Based on the need for constant optimization of water treatment processes for supply, the study follows the line of development based on the study of the application of potato starch, prepared hot and cold, as a treatment agent. Raw water was collected from the Pardo River (RS), used to supply the city of Frederico Westphalen and region. With the help of the Jar Test equipment, the main stages of water treatment in the conventional model were simulated. Aluminum sulfate was applied as a coagulant and potato starch was evaluated, observing the efficiency of the isolated and combined use of the organic product. Potato starch proved to be efficient when applied together with aluminum sulfate, defining itself as a flocculation aid capable of reducing the necessary coagulant dosage.
