Optical & luminescence properties of rare earth doped phosphate glasses

There has been a great deal of interest to discover and develop rare earth (RE) doped glasses for various potential technological applications in the fields such as solid state lasers, optical fiber amplifiers, optical storage materials, light converters, sensors, phosphors, acousto-optic modifiers, planar waveguides, etc. The design and development of these optical devices require detailed spectroscopic investigations of the optical properties such as emission peak wavelength, bandwidth, stimulated emission cross-section, lanthanide environment, phonon energies, etc. These are ultimately useful for the production of potential optical devices such as laser glasses and photonic devices. I hope that this book will be go some way towards reinvigorating interest in these glass and science technology.
