Opportunities and Challenges for Cottage Industries in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a country of villages and the villages are the motherland of Cottage industries. In fact, the Cottage industry is the hub of many economic activities in a developing country like Bangladesh. It has emerged over the years as a highly vibrant and dynamic industry of the Bangladesh economy. The phenomenal growth of Cottage Industry in Bangladesh is mainly due to the people¿s quest to be self-employed and not because it is easy to establish or manage. Financial constraints and Lack of management skill hamper the efficient performance of Cottage Industry in Bangladesh. In view of this, we recommend that government and other non-governmental organization should regularly organize seminars for potential and actual Cottage Industry enterprise operators on how to plan, organize, direct and control their businesses, and that Cottage Industry enterprises operators¿ should device effective marketing strategies and good management customers relations at all times.
