There are around 3000 species of snakes in the world out of which 200 are found in India. In India it is believed that snakes bite about two million people annually out of which 15000-30000 cases prove fatal. In these cases Viper and Cobra snakebites are common across India. Elapid Colubride and Viperidae families of venomous snakes are of medically important in India. In our country Herpetologists, sarpmitras, trackers, large number of people who stay in villages, mountains and forests are more exposed to snake bites. In these remote areas due to lack of transport facilities and primary aid more people succumb to death. This book explores about classification of snakes, signs and symptoms of snake bite, identification of poisonous snake bite, treatment of snake bite.
