The literature data on wastewater treatment from medicinal and veterinary drugs were reviewed. It was shown that the development of conditionally reagent-free electrochemical methods for the treatment of wastewaters containing pharmaceutical residues is extremely important and attractive. Some recommendations for the selection of the most effective electrocatalysts for direct electrochemical oxidation of pollutants were given. The concept of a holistic approach to the optimum organization of processes of destruction of components in hospital effluents was developed, that involves peroxone systems.
