Nutritional Input Strategies for Enhancing Fish Production

The global increase in fish feed prices has created an urgent need for more efficient nutritional input strategies in fish farms. Most research in this area focuses on yield and production costs. However, there is need for more comprehensive research which also considers product quality and efficient utilization on nutrient inputs. This thesis addresses those issues through series of applicable research. The first study compare the advantages and disadvantages of applying different nutritional input strategies (no inputs; compost fertilization; manure fertilization; compared to fish feed input) from both producers interest (higher yield at lower cost) and consumers concern (fish quality and surrounding environment). The second study investigates the possibility of applying organic fertilizers and mixture of organic and chemical fertilizers. Fish fed commercial diet after 8 weeks of stocking to meet the demand of growing fish. Based on result obtained, the author recommends fish farmers to follow the best input strategy, which reduce production cost and efficiently utilize nutrient inputs for the sustainability of fish farming business.
