Today, Ni-Ti is used as archwires in orthodontics and as springs, coils, arch expanders, and other appliances across various fields of dentistry, engineering, aeronautics, etc. Wire selection is an extremely complex subject transcending all aspects of orthodontics including biology of tooth movement, stress magnitude, mechanotherapy, and individual treatment philosophies, physics, physical properties, and individual patient response.It is evident how the appliance philosophies and materials science progress is closely interrelated. All the Ni-Ti wire alloys that were introduced and the newer ones have some very individualistic and unique properties associated with them.
