[New Responsibility for Lutheran Peace Ethics]
Until the 2019 »Peace Synod of the EKD« in Dresden, an ethical optimism about peace prevailed in the churches as well as in society that we were on the way to a peaceful world. The acute trouble spots in the world and, above all, Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine have shattered this optimism. A review of the parameters of peace ethics appears necessary. The EKD has initiated the process of drawing up a renewed basic text on peace ethics. The United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany (VELKD) is involved in this discourse. This volume brings together contributions given at a conference commissioned by the VELKD in 2024. They bring theological concerns into the peace ethics discourse that have tended to fade into the background in previous debates.
