Nanotechnology in Prosthodontics

Nanomaterials have played an important role in basic scientific innovation as well as clinical technical development in prosthodontics.It demonstrates that many properties of materials used in prosthodontics, such as modulus of elasticity, surface hardness, polymerization shrinkage, and filler loading, can be significantly improved after their scales were reduced from micron-size to nanosize by nanotechnology, and that the performances of composites can also be enhanced by adding appropriate nanomaterials. Nanoscience is a novel strategy that will affect medicine, dentistry, research, and healthcare. It will provide dentists with more equipment, medications, and precision-made materials, which will improve patient compliance. Material science advancements in prosthodontics are opening up new paths for extensive and abundant research while keeping the safety, efficacy, and usability of these new technologies in mind.
