Nanotechnology in Oral Medicine and Radiology

The word ¿Nanö is derived from the Greek word for ¿dwarf,¿ combined with a noun to develop words, for example, nanotechnology, nanometer, nanodevices, or nanorobots and it¿s an emerging branch of science, engineering, and technology. ¿Nanotechnology¿ is defined as the study, development, and application of extremely small (which is about 1¿100 nm) materials, devices, and systems exhibiting physical, chemical, and biological properties that are different from those found on a larger scale (Dunn et al., 2002). The potential applications of nanotechnology in medicine are vast. These include imaging and diagnostics, targeted drug delivery, nano-enabled therapies, and tissue engineering. But nanotechnology has had an impact on dentistry only in recent times. This book is a preview of what's been introduced in dentistry using nanotechnology, especially in oral medicine and radiology.
