The work is a result of the research conducted among Karate trainers, members of the Polish Karate Federation. The author presents the historical and philosophical outline of karate. The book presents the demographic and social characteristics of the examined karates. The main part of the work shows values ¿¿accepted by karatekas and their motives for karate training. The author points out that the karatekas form up a subculture, and the aspects that determine its functionality and dysfunctionality. At the end of the work, the author formulates conclusions and applications related to the karate environment in Poland.
