Modulation of Leptin and Interleukin-6 by Lactobacillus Acidophilus

Ulcerative colitis (UC) with Crohn's are the two forms of the inflammatory bowel diseases resulting in disruption of the normal colonic function that leads to a defect in the absorption and motility. Immunologically UC is associated with abnormally responses including increased production of cytokines particularly IL-6. Many strategies were considered for the treatment of UC but little have shown benefit responses. The Lactobacillus acidophilus probiotics have been proved as immunomodulator for the intestinal immunity.In addition to the immunity, L. acidophilus exerts beneficial effects on the gastrointestinal homeostasis and healing. Results of the present work demonstrated that L.acidophilus was efficient in modulating abnormal cytokines (Leptin& IL-6) release indicating the viability of L.acidophilus in preventing the chronic prognosis of colitis in the cancer induction.
