Modeling of a geothermal reservoir exploitation project

The present study is interested in the potential of using geothermal reserves in aquifers for heating and cooling of buildings. Considering the cool climate of Antsirabe and the existing geothermal sources, one can envisage a geothermal exploitation as heating of habitat and production of domestic hot water. The modeling of the exploitation of a horizontal aquifer reservoir with two production wells and one reinjection well was studied with mathematical formulations of heat transfers by hydrodynamic studies and thermal studies, aiming to serve as a guide for a future geothermal exploitation of the reservoirs in Antsirabe. Two models were elaborated, a model with three aligned wells with the method of superposition of complex potentials and a model with three non-aligned wells at selected distances to see the position of the thermal fronts. Finally, a comparison with the geothermal doublet showed that the life of the triplet is significantly extended and that the simulation indicates that the triplet well has superior extraction performance.
