MISMANAGEMENT OF IMMUNIZATION WASTE

Health facilities are the main sources of health care waste. In the health facilities, the main observation is that the health care personnel are very little involved in the daily management of waste from immunization, although they should play a central role in the functioning of the sustainable waste management system.In the Lemba health zone, no study has been conducted on the management of immunization-related waste. It is necessary to develop a waste management plan. This work allowed us to conduct a situational analysis of waste management strategies related to immunization. We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study, which took place from January to July 2015 in the Lemba health zone. It involved all 43 health facilities organizing the immunization service and 63 Agents involved in immunization activities were interviewed using a structured questionnaire. An observation guide was used to observe the behavior of the agents with regard to the management of waste from vaccination. Our sample was exhaustive.
