Minimal Intervention Dentistry

Minimal Intervention Dentistry (MID) is a contemporary approach to dental care that emphasizes prevention and early intervention to minimize the need for invasive dental procedures. The goal of MID is to preserve as much of the natural tooth structure as possible while treating dental decay, rather than simply removing decayed portions of teeth and replacing them with restorative materials.MID is based on the concept of "caries management by risk assessment" (CAMBRA), which involves assessing a patient's risk for developing dental caries (cavities) and developing a personalized treatment plan based on that risk assessment. This may involve preventive measures such as fluoride treatments, dietary counseling, and oral hygiene instruction, as well as minimally invasive restorative treatments such as sealants and small fillings.
