Migrations and Rural Finance

Over the last few years, migratory flows have increased exponentially and related challenges have gained momentum, particularly in the Euro-Mediterranean area. The debate under way has been fueled by the search for innovative strategies and tools, in sight of promoting sustainable development in the countries involved while coping with migrants and refugees. A key role can be played by rural finance and unprecedented attention should be devoted to all relevant subsegments, including agricultural finance, agricultural value chain finance and agricultural microfinance. Based on their unexploited potential, the author aims at providing key messages and recommendations for policy intervention, as well as for further research and development. The analysis is intended to shed light on best practices in financial management and to favor the adoption of joint solutions to shared problems by pursuing the competition-cooperation equilibrium in the area under investigation. Therefore, this book should be useful to practitioners, as well as to academics and University students, who specialize in fields that are linked to the financial industry and ¿ in more general terms ¿ to social sciences.
