Methodology for the selection of metallurgical coals

The main goal of every coke plant is to produce the metallurgical coke needed for the reduction of the iron ores in the blast furnace.Two principal byproducts are also produced: gas coke and tar In order to achieve that purpose, a set of machinery, raw materials, human resources are needed, which must be administrated in an harmonic way taking care of the safety, the quality and the environment.The practical tools required for the optimal selection of coals and the blend design for the metallurgical coke production are presented in this bookA model developed in an Excel spreadsheet by using lineal programming technique is given.The case of ¿Compañía Siderúrgica Huachipato S.A.¿ is presented and discussed as example of the model application and several feasible situations are analyzed. The methodology used, the main results and conclusions are finally renowned.
