MEDICAL MANAGEMENT OF TEMPOROMANDIBULAR DISORDERS

Due to the diverse causes of these disorders, TMD pain management requires various methods of treatment that are conformable to the origin of the dysfunction conservative treatment including counselling, exercises, occlusal splint therapy, massage, manual therapy and others should be considered as the first choice treatment for TMD pain because of their low risk of side effects. In cases of severe acute or chronic pain resulting from serious disorders, inflammation and/or degeneration pharmacotherapy, minimally invasive and invasive procedures should be included.Treatments range from simple self-care practices and conservative treatments to injections and open surgery Most experts agree that treatment should begin with conservative, nonsurgical therapies, with surgery left as the last resort. Many of the treatments discussed here work best when used in combination.Based on the recent evidences , this book provides with the conclusion that proper clinical examination along with appropriate radiographic imaging and patient counselling would act as a key in implementing multimodal treatment, combination therapy & multispeciality involvement that may give reliable.
