Mechanoluminescence (ML) is the phenomenon of luminescence induced by any mechanical action on solids. Despite lot of experimental studies on the transient behavior of ML, no theory has been developed to explain satisfactorily the time-evolution of ML. This book explores a phenomenological theory for the transient behaviour of ML induced by impulsive deformation of fluorescent and phosphorescent crystals and makes a comparison between the theoretical and experimental results.
