Mass Media and Press freedom in Africa

The book gives a clear analysis of the mass media and press freedom in Africa. Press Freedom being the right to publish facts, ideas and opinion without interference from the government or private groups, in most African countries is an issue mentioned in the constitutions, but not being practically observed by the concerned authorities. Since the days of John Milton there has never been absolute freedom of the press. Even the countries noted to have the freest press freedom, there are some points of obstructing press from carrying out their work.In particular,the book proposes that society's right to freedom of the press contributes to reconciling the communal oriented traditions of African cultures with the more individually oriented concept of freedom of the press originally conceived in international human rights law.
